You can do this by running bounties or NRs at T16, and killing elites and opening chests, or by running GRs in 3 minutes, all to maximize your drops. If you're talking about first ancient weapon of the season, sure probably rolling damage range will be the best choice. However, getting a good enough damage range (let's say >80% of the max roll) is not too hard and at that point ...
